Placefilms
A select collection of placebrand identity films I produced while working with the best commercial property developers in China while at JWDK in Shanghai.
What I did:
Rockbund 洛克•外滩源
Rockbund is a collection of historical buildings on the northern edge (or fringe) of Shanghai’s famous riverfront, The Bund 外滩. The entire collection of properties are under renovation by David Chipperfield architects, and recently had a brand revamp done by JWDK. To coincide with the brand’s relaunch campaign, I developed two short videos utilizing and featuring the new brand identity to convey the duality of the new Rockbund, a place for Shanghai’s creators on the fringe.
Longfu Temple 隆福寺
Since its beginnings in 1452, Longfu Temple has reinvented itself multiple times through the centuries yet it still remains an important cultural icon in the minds of Beijing people.
Originally the site of a Royal temple (and centrally adjacent to the Forbidden City), it was also once a political centre, a local fair, buzzing marketplace, as well as a place of worship for commoners. In each guise, Longfu Temple served as a unique connector of cultures and is adapting once again to needs of today’s Beijingers.
As part of their brand relaunch designed by JWDK, I developed the motion identity for digital content showcased in the video below. Using the brand’s central theme of Sunmao (榫卯) Chinese wooden joints (used in the original Longfu Temple) informed how type and image animations flow in and out of screens across all Longfu’s digital content and signage.
